KOENIG Building + Restoration
When a condo-dwelling Chicago couple decided to build on a quiet street in Leawood Hills West, they sought green space, great schools and a firm with whom they could completely entrust the building process as they tied up loose ends in the windy city. They selected KOENIG Building + Restoration, to begin building their home in May 2015.
“Ninety-nine percent of this build occurred while we were still living in Chicago, and we loved working with KOENIG,” the homeowner says. “I think what made things so easy throughout the entire process was their organization. At the very beginning of the project, Scott, Molly and their teams had all the deadlines listed for us. There didn’t seem like there was any panic because we already knew when we needed to have decisions made on finishes.”
As a couple of food and film connoisseurs, the homeowners envisioned a large, open-plan main living area where they can cook, socialize, watch movies and make amazing memories with family and friends.
The owners’ design preference tends toward simple lines and clean spaces. Their bright, airy home completed in June 2016 is transitional meets modern. A sense of old world chic is achieved through Carrara marble countertops, a classic beveled tile backsplash in the kitchen and 19th century English aged iron pendants from Restoration Hardware above the kitchen island. The pop of Essex Green on the kitchen island as well as the home’s styling and furnishings give the space a modern feel perfect for a young growing family.
“We put thought into the spaces where people gather,” the homeowner says.
“We want people to come over and feel comfortable. If you put your feet on our coffee table, we won’t mind.”
The homeowners appreciated the fact that KOENIG brings in designers from the beginning of the building or restoration project, lending a unique level of care and service.
“Molly and Melissa were a huge asset during the process,” a homeowner says. “There are so many choices out there and it can get overwhelming. They really helped us narrow down options in tile selection and lighting, giving us the confidence that we were making the right choices.”
KOENIG design consultant Melissa Bowles, whose services are a complimentary part of the firm’s building experience, says the selection of the Peralta Round Chandelier from RH Modern for the great room was a fun moment in the design process—an instant YES from both homeowners.
“We want you to love your home and the process to build it too,” Bowles says. Flowers pictured provided by Bella Chic Floral. BellaChicFloral.com
