Creating the Happily Ever After 11

When a recently married area couple decided to make Old Leawood their new home, they quickly realized that building would be their best option. They enlisted Scott and Molly Koenigsdorf from Koenig Home and Design to turn their dreams into a reality.

“The Koenig Team was thrilled when these buyers decided to have us be their builder,” says Scott. “Our initial discussions were about how they wanted the Koenig style for their next home. The next step was just finding them the right lot. Within a few months we were able to find the perfect lot that fit their desires for privacy, but still in a great location.”

The building and decorating process was easier than the newlyweds anticipated. The builder walked them through each step with great care. “The Koenig team made it very easy to make our decisions by providing a realistic timeframe and help along the way at each appointment to get exactly what we wanted.” Using the popular Houzz app aided in narrowing down what they liked and did not like, and helped the couple communicate it. The Koenig team was able to see their vision and help pinpoint it in their decision making.

The couple appreciated that the Koenig team made the big decisions about floor plan and light switch placement, while they got to focus on the fun decisions like finishes, paint colors, tile and countertop selections and landscaping.

Her favorite spot is the main level throughout the kitchen and living room. “I love the openness of the space. It allows us to be able to live in many spaces, but feel very connected,” she says.

His favorite space is the basement. He designed the bar and they’ve added a big couch and TV down there. “No surprise–it is very hard to get him to leave the Man Cave,” she says.

They love the established neighborhood and the great families that live in the area. “Everyone is very close and they have all been so friendly,” she says. The amenities nearby are also a great part of the neighborhood; their go-tos are Blue Moose, Spin Pizza and they enjoy being close to Corinth, the Village and Waldo.

Designer and Business Development Coordinator Molly says the newlyweds were great clients to have. “They were very involved in the design of their home and knew from the start what it would take to put their touch on it. They worked with our design team and subcontractors to make their vision a reality. Their traditional home mixes masculine and urban elements with warm industrial touches. It turned out so beautifully, and we’re so glad we got to work with such a great couple.”

From tear down to move in, the project took about nine months. The happy husband carried his new bride across the threshold in mid-December of 2015.
