It’s almost that time. The sunflowers fields of Grinter Farms will be in full bloom around the end of August or early September and the sight is spectacular! Sunflowers as far as the eye can see.
Owners Jim and Kris Grinter plant more than 40 acres of sunflowers around their home on Stillwell Road, just off U.S. Highway 24-40 between Tonganoxie and Lawrence. They invite all to come enjoy the short two- or three-week season of the sunflowers.
It’s not unusual to see crowds at the fields at all hours of the day, most snapping pictures. And you are free to cut a few flowers to take home, just leave $1 per stem in one of the donation boxes posted on the fence.
Rain and heat affect timing of the first blooms and how long the flowers last. Be sure to check the progress of the fields on Facebook.com/GrinterFarms.
